Astro and SEO
Architecture, bilingual content, indexing, performance and editorial workflows in Astro, explained through decisions applied in real projects.
How to build an Astro website that is ready for search
Astro can deliver static HTML, reduce client-side JavaScript and organise content through typed collections. That foundation can help performance and crawling, but it does not create an SEO strategy on its own: the site still needs URLs with a clear purpose, useful content, consistent metadata, internal links, correct language versions and post-deployment measurement.
This path brings together decisions applied in this portfolio. It helps you choose an architecture, build the editorial system and diagnose how Google discovers each page without turning Astro, a sitemap or llms.txt into a ranking promise.
Recommended implementation path
This sequence avoids optimising tags before deciding who will edit the website, which URLs it needs and how its content will be maintained.
Choose the architecture and responsibilities
Astro works well when content can be generated before each deployment and the team values technical control. If a non-technical person edits every day, the editorial workflow matters as much as performance.
Design the content system
Collections, schemas and a CMS should reduce real mistakes. The decision is not “Git or dashboard” in isolation, but who publishes, what they need to preview and how much maintenance the project can support.
Publish, crawl and diagnose
Once the architecture is stable, add canonicals, hreflang, sitemaps, images, structured data and Search Console. Each signal solves a different problem, and none forces Google to index a URL.
What to check in a real implementation
- Give every page worth indexing a clear purpose and a stable URL.
- Deliver useful HTML even when client-side JavaScript never runs.
- Centralise titles, descriptions, canonicals, Open Graph and structured data.
- Connect language versions with their own canonicals and reciprocal hreflang annotations.
- Generate the sitemap and internal links from the real architecture, not a separate list that can drift.
- Validate production through Search Console, field data and checks against the final URL.
